The painted details are great. There are tons of small buttons and zippers on the jumpsuit and they’re all painted well. The proton pack required a ton of paint detail and it received it, even a light silver dusting for a nice effect. The Ghostbusters logo and Spengler tampos were clean. The only paint issue I had were on his glasses. The black was a little rough around the edges, but I was able to clean it up with a box knife.
This version of Slimer is molded in translucent green with painted details for the eyes and mouth. When I was debating waiting for a “clean” Egon, I was motivated by two things. One, the length of time it would take to get that Egon and two, I really wanted a clear version of Slimer and a later release might be painted like the 2-up. Ultimately, clear Slimer won out and he didn’t disappoint. I love the detail on the figure and the darker green paint wash that settled into his folds. The paint around his eyes and mouth are sharp, but I’m not sure what the black lines around his eyes are there for, I think sticking with the green wash in that area would have been better. Slimer features ball shoulders, hinge elbows, and cut wrists.
Overall, it’s a nice set, even for $20. My only major problems were the occasional Dustin Hoffman-ness on the head sculpt and the non-removable proton pack. I think the line has a bright future ahead of it, and I’m looking forward to Winston (my favorite Ghostbuster) in December. I do hope that Mattel figures out better pack-ins though. Walter Peck and the containment wall is pretty sweet, but the Logo Ghost is underwhelming (ditch that red “No” symbol and I’d be happy) and the Trap accessory should come with all the Ghostbusters (as should a clip-on proton stream). We haven’t heard what Peter will include yet, but I’m hoping its good and can help ease the sting of the $20 price point.
Still, Ghostbusters Classics is another strong action figure line from Mattel and my love for Ghostbusters is going to keep Egon front of shelf for awhile. (At least until I can get an RGB Egon – sorry, Harold).

I love the shot with all the old ghosts!!
Me too. I thought he’d be huge compared to them. I was totally wrong.
I saw that Hotel Sedgewick Ray BS. Let’s just say they’d better not.
And Mattel needs to get on the ball with the ghost pack-ins like you said. Slimer gets are hopes up and they put crap like the logo ghost in after that? I know the movies didn’t offer a lot, but they can do better than a trap and a wall.
I’m hoping Venkman will come with something substantial. Still, that Containment wall is pretty sweet…
For some reason all of my action figure neighborhoods all look like kitchen tables too. How strange.
Just one of those things, I guess. 😉
I agree completely that there is so much untapped potential in the RGB mythos. So many great bad guys like the Boogeyman, Sandman, Sam Hain, ect.
I say waste no time getting into the Real Ghostbusters.
Yep. Plus, the pack-in ghosts can go unhinged. It won’t present the problems the movie does.
