Marvel Legends / Studio Series
Avengers 6″ Hawkeye Review

I’m not as versed on the particulars of Marvel bucks, but I do believe Hawkeye here is another all-new figure. There are some generic enough parts that there could be reuse (or will be reuse) though. All the costume details appear spot-on though, so I’m going with his being an all-new tool. While I like the movie costume and the overall sculpt itself, the real shining piece for me is the head sculpt. There’s a tiny little Jeremy Renner sitting right here on my desk. It’s Hawkeye surely, but I also feel like I could have this guy robbing banks, diffusing bombs, or kicking ass like Jason Bourne easily enough. Hasbro did a great job on the head sculpt.

The only thing I’m not quite sure on (and don’t take my nerd card, but I’ve only seen Avengers once so far), is the harness for the quiver. It looks fine, but I’m not quite sure where it hails from. I also think it’s on the wrong side. It’s only real function appears to angle the quiver, but it angles it opposite of the movie. It does fit on the other way (and when you put it on that way, the spot for the S.H.I.E.L.D. tampo on the figure and spot where the S.H.I.E.L.D. tampo should be on the harness overlap), but I just plucked it off entirely. Most of the pics from the movie don’t show it, the quiver is secure on this back without it, and I’m good not breaking up the front of his costume and being able to put his

Paint has been really great for me on most of this line. I had a little trouble picking out a Cap, but all of the figures I had only seen one of (up until the resets anyway) all had great paint which did save me from lots of heartache. I do want to note again that Hawkeye appears to have slightly different colors in newer cases. This includes the S.H.I.E.L.D. tampo being on the harness instead of the figure, silver sunglasses, and some more drab colors.

Hawkeye features some great articulation including the one-piece ball-joint on the neck, two-piece ball-joints shoulders, wrists, hips, and ankles (we need a name for this new peg-in-the-foot design), swivels at the biceps and thighs, double hinges at the elbows and knees, and the ab crunch. Pretty much every articulation point I want can be found here – I still want that waist swivel and a two-piece ball-joint on the head, but I’m not complaining. He moves like I want him too.

In addition to that removable harness, Hawkeye also includes a removable quiver and a trusty bow. These pieces appear to be rather film accurate, but they do suffer a bit for being solid black. If they’re 100% accurate, I can’t complain, but they almost seem too simple in light of the execution on the figure. There is one complaint I will lodge though – there’s no arrows! I’d overlook his having a loose arrow (though that’d be cool), but his quiver is empty! Could we not get a Hawkeye from earlier in the movie?

Overall, while I’m going to have rob my Young Justice figures of their arrows, I love everything else about this figure! The sculpt is top notch, the articulation is at the upper end for 6” figures, and he just looks great alone or in the five-sixths of Avengers Hasbro has provided to us. I know a lot of the appeal for me here is Renner’s portrayal of Hawkeye and that it’s been cast in plastic, but it’s also because it was cast in plastic so well.

Any toy fan should appreciate this figure if they can find it (and hopefully, it’s going to be easier going forward with Walmart adding them into more stores). I’ve still got to work a Cap review in here at IAT, and my Iron Man is actually a non-battle damaged line from IM2, but this little line feels like one of the best things to come out of 2012 already. The only thing that sucks about it is that it still appears to be done with. Not finishing the Avengers is criminal. And heck, I want an updated Fury, Coulson, and Maria Hill. I want that Thor in his more casual gear. An unmasked Captain America. I want more. Someone at Hasbro or Hunter PR just needs to let me know that I’ve not reached the end of this Avengers Studio Series line. It’s just too good to let go.

Avengers 6″ Hawkeye Review

  1. Okay, now I’m curious what “convention” Vault was at up here? Contamination? (I could usually be found hanging at my friend Steve’s table, right behind John Wesley Shipp and across from the “pose in a coffin!” guy.)

    ANYWHO…
The one I snagged up here at WA,MO store yesterday seems to be the same version you did? I almost went to the Onion store, but it was still warm enough that groceries needed to be dropped off and I had no other reason to run back out. I wish I had AND filled up, as gas jumped $.25 today! D’OH! I had thought about going out to hit it and do laundry, but last time I looked at the clock this AM, it was after 4. :[

I’m holding off on opening my Hawkeye until I find another, “just in case”. yes, one of my many OCDs, but he can also sub as “Ultimate Hawkeye”, and I think I saw him in the AvX ads wearing a similar costume to his movie appearance?

I can’t tell if he has any part re-use, other than obvious shoulders, elbows, and ball hips. not sure about biceps? I don’t think the legs have been used before, but they do look like the Punisher/Sam Fury legs a bit.

It looks like a good figure and likeness of Renner, but in package, mine seems to have a large gap at the torso swivel, much like the pic you have with the chest strap covering the SHIELD logo. so maybe it’s nothing?

    1. finally checked out Onion WM this afternoon, looks like they had two cases, but no Hulks and only one Hawkeye? It looks like their was enough peg space, so someone got to the Hulks and a Hawkeye before I did? I counted 15 figures when I got there.

checking out the figure out of package: I take back the biceps and joint re-usage as it looks like an all new sculpt. Sucks that the quiver is “closed” at both ends. I’m not sure which end is up, the end with the pointy bits or the end with what may be the …arrowhead rotor (??-as seen in movie)?

Shoulder strap: superfluous and annoying in that you have to line up the hole in it and on his back to insert the quiver peg. it does appear molded for a better fit on the left shoulder, tho.

and is it wrong I’m playing with base configurations more than checking out the figures? LOL

      1. I thought he was all new, he looked it.

And, no, I played with the harness quite a bit before I opted to just remove it! I kinda want the harness with the SHIELD logo on it.

    2. It was back in late June or early July, right around when he posted the Loki review. I forget the name. He and his “wife” go up there for one con in the Summer normally, I just forget the name.

I think both the Ultimate and regular comic versions have adopted a costume similar to the movie.

      1. Contamination was mid-June, wkd of 15th, to be exact.
Ron Jeremy, Seka, Booth Brothers, Peter Mayhew, J LaRose, Ari Lehman, some zombie dudes, Ivan Cryptosis, Jeffrey Combs, one of the original movie TMNTurtles, couple authors, like my friend Steven LaChance (where I was hanging out), the burlesque show, and my dealer, Brendan, is buddies with the guy who ran it, Dave Dyer, and helped him out with security and such.

Not sure of any others, other than the Metropolis Celebration the wkd before Contamination?

  2. the size issue with Thor is more obvious with Hawkeye. Thor is like another Hulk to Hawkeye.

    1. I do wish both Hawkeye & especially Loki were a little bigger, but I seem to be a little more accepting of the scale on these – I’m not sure why.

    1. Thanks! I had to get an older Iron Man (though I wish they’d make a Mark VII), but it’s been a fun to have (though it wasn’t fun to collect…).

  3. i was genuinely worried that the film would end up making hawkeye look less than impressive… i was happily delighted. the design of the costume was cool, he was smart and skillful, and kept up easily w/ the more superhuman characters. that, as a very long time hawkeye fan, made me very happy indeed. the fig is a great likeness too.

    1. I loved the movie made sure to showcase everybody, particularly by letting Cap, Tony, & Thor just “be themselves” for the most part and letting the three “new” characters shine.
