Today on Facebook, Matty made a few statements about the role of the bonus figures in MOTUC. The full quote is available after the jump, but here’s the gist:
- There will be 2-4 Bonus figures a year on a near quarterly basis. Bonus figures will tend to be A-list updates like Battle Armor He-Man.
- The updated King Grayskull figure is officially being considerd a Bonus figure and not a reissue. Based on other statements, he’s scheduled near the end of the year.
- The Bonus figures will be slotted into the subscription if a figure’s productions slips and will miss the date (fans will be notified months in advance).
- Large scale items like Battle Cat or the proposed army builder 2pks may be included in the 2011 subscription if their is enough fan interest in them this year.
- Matty let us know that the 2nd batch of reissue Skeletor is likely to go on “Special” sale (not the 15th) sometime later this month.
If you’re unsure of the MOTU schedule, you can always check our MOTUC Checklist.
Hey He-Fans,
I’ve seen on Facebook and the fan sites a bit of confusion as to what is a Club Eternia subscription figure and what is a bonus figure. So here is the full scoop!
Club Eternia memberships were sold for a four week period during SDCC 2009. If you purchased a membership you will automatically receive and be billed for one new MOTU figure each month. The subscription figures are marked on Mattycollector.com with a gold burst. The Jan. 2010 figurue is Adora, the February figure is Trap Jaw. 2010 memberships are now closed. 2011 memberships will be sold during SDCC 2010 and so on.
If you do not have a membership you can also log on during the 15th of each month and purchase that figure until it is sold out. We can not guarantee every figure unless you have a subscription; these figures will sell out fast!
In addition to the 12 monthly figures, we are also going to offer 2 – 4 “bonus” figures each year, usually at the end of each quarter. These figures will be A-list hero and villain updates such as Battle Armor He-Man and King Grayskull. These figures are not included in the subscription program. However, if a standard figure slips schedule (like what happened with Mer-Man in 2009) we may subsitute an upcoming “bonus” figure to ensure their is one subscription figure each month. If this does happen it will be announced well in advance. (i.e. several months)
Ideally nothing will slip schedule but we need to have a back up plan just in case!
Finally, in addition to the monthly figures and the bonus figures, we are also looking at doing a few larger items (like Battle Car or army builder 2 packs). These are also not included in the subscription simply because we do not know how many we are doing yet and they will range in price. Eventually we may include these skus in the 2011 subscription if their is enough fan interest in the 2010 skus.
Hopefully this clarifies most questions. Please do feel free to comment and I’ll check back to answer any other questions about how the Club Eternia subscription works!
Matty.
So, KG is a bonus now? That means a lot different than the exclusive, doesn’t it? Damn.
I hope he’s not too different. I don’t want to feel like I need both.
Only 2 bonus figures will be awesome. If they do that and include the bigger items, I might just go sub in ’11.
If bonuses are being restricted to the variants, I hope for a few more, but no more than 4 a year.
“These are also not included in the subscription simply because we do not know how many we are doing yet and they will range in price. Eventually we may include these skus in the 2011 subscription if their is enough fan interest in the 2010 skus.”
i’d like to break this down just a tad… one reason given here for the items not being includd in the sub is “will range in price.” how does that change in 2011?
next question- how exactly will they determine “fan interest?” for one, we only know the schedule 5 months in advance, and not even the entire schedule (i.e. do you think moss man is the only march fig? cuz i don’t.). two, they listen to the ravening faceboobs who complain about flocked ears, but so far, we “new sculpt” fans have trap jaw… and as of optikk, half his parts are being reused already. what is the venue we need to communicate our urges for toys we don’t know about? hhmmm?
is interest determined by sales rates? cuz by that parameter, we’ve seen HIGH demand for every single figure produced thusfar. no figure has ever lasted a full week. that’s CRAZY! most don’t last a full hour… how much more interested do we need to be? wasn’t the biggest bitch when the first sub got offered that 1) we didn’t know what figs we were buying 2) bonuses weren’t included the 2010 sub is closed, the only way we could vote w/ our dollar, we can’t anymore… so that leaves what, precisely, for them to determine “fan interest?”
The Mattel/fan relationship is out to get us. Really.
I just wish they’d re-release him already! He’s the only whole missing in my collection and he was going to be the umpteenth reissue even though he was FIRST.
And now there’s sufficient changes to make him a bonus figure? Oy vey.
Me too. I picked up the rest, but passed on him cause I was dumb.
I know the theme is to rag on matty at almost every chance, but I think this all makes sense. MOTUC has a lot of things coming up to be excited about.
I agree with you. None of this bothers me and it sounds like future subscriptions could be better than the current one.
Hasn’t he clarified this a few times? Hard to get the word out to the furthest reaches of MOTU fandom?
Not everyone sees everything. 😉
