Bee comes with one accessory, a gun which fits easily in either hand. Or, if you don’t want him holding it, it can be stored inside the back of the hatch on his back. Also, he has two arm blades that are attached at his wrists. They’re made of translucent red and can flip out from underneath his forearm. They have sculpted grooves, including a particularly deep one in the center. Kind of like a blood groove, this is an interesting idea for robots. I really like these blades. They’re almost too cool for a character like Bumblebee.
Bumblebee’s transformation is involved, to say the least. Like Optimus, you pretty much need the instructions the first couple times. I would say that I’m impressed how those long limbs can fit inside that car shell, but they don’t. Not perfectly at least. Bumblebee’s so tightly held together that if any limb or part of the shell isn’t perfect, then he won’t fit together. I was able to transform him once perfectly, but can’t seem to repeat the process for some reason. I have the most problem with his back legs. If I fit one side in, it always pushes the other out. For this review I spent about thirty minutes trying to get this to work right, but was defeated in the end and gave up in frustration.
It’s really a shame I can’t get his transformation to work right, because I love Bumblebee’s vehicle mode. This is what I think about when I picture the car of the future. The red light piping around the wheels is also a nice touch. Who’d of thought that a VW Bug was a sleek, futuristic, racing machine in a previous life? The only thing that could make this better is when they repaint him into Cliffjumper! With the voice of The Rock, that would be pure awesome!
Where does this leave me? I don’t know. He’s not as perfect a figure as RotF Lockdown, but he’s not terrible either. I wish his body were longer, but the figure was shorter. I love his car mode, but I can’t get him to keep it perfectly. Enjoyable and frustrating at the same time, WFC Bumblebee is a figure of contradictions.
i’d be curious to see how this “figure” lasts… something in my old black heart says within a year or two, he’ll be unposable in robot mode… those limbs just look too damned heavy for the engineering of those joints. he looks sharp, but like i said, i bet he ends up being a car in a couple years.
I’m not sure. Those joints are pretty solid right now. I guess it’ll depend on the grade of plastic.
I agree completely about his proportions. It’s not a bad figure, but I’d much prefer him with stockier legs and a chest that looked more like a chest than a gut. He’s got some really nice, well-meant touches like all the light piping and his blades, but the proportions suffer to make his transformation feasible – which it sounds like, isn’t even feasible in the case of your figure.
I transformed him once, I just can’t seem to do it again. Of course, it could just be me. Those more experienced TF fans probably aren’t having these issues. 😛
I’ve got this figure and never even noticed how crazy long his limbs were until reading this review.
I always have him posed crouching with arms bent, probably subconsciously trying to make up for his extra height, but now I cannot un-see it!
Great review as always!
Thank you. I’m with you on the crouching. He looks a lot better in an action pose.
that is one motley crew in the last picture, good review though.
lol, Thanks! I was trying to show height differences.
