The Art Director at Catalyst Game Labs just posted a breakdown of what he looks for when buying art for their publications. Some nice guidance for artists looking to sell their work or just good ideas about composition.

An art thread... after all these years.
Well, howdy, guys. Check me out at: http://manekochan.deviantart.com/ This is my main site though I do forget to update it frequently. It does contain some nudity but you can't see it unless you're logged in and have given approval to see it. But you should. :) Cuz it's tasteful and some of it's damn awesome.
For various and clearly awesome things, you can check out my etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/manekochan?page=1

I do cards for company called 5finity, illustrations and also some comic pages (for Zombies vs Cheerleaders) every once in a while. My newest published work is in the Kickstarter book Bad Karma: http://badkarmacreative.com/
Er... will be. It's not out yet. I think it's coming out in a few weeks. At any rate, I did some watercolors for them.
Brock: Honestly, Hank, where do you pick that stuff up? I never see you read!
Dean: It's weird, right?

how do we get approval to see your naked bits? i'm a deviant, but truthfully, i've barely ever used the site, so i'm not familiar w/ it's features much.

EDIT: never mind, after i logged in, they didn't pop up right away, but after a moment or two, they did in fact fully load. good stuff!

As for artists I like? This is always a tough one to answer, because I inevitably leave someone out.

Mike Turner is and will always be my favorite artist and one of my greatest inspirations. I only met him briefly about 8 months before his passing, and even with his health problems and the demands being placed on his time, he was still one of the nicest and most gracious guys I've ever met.

And, of course, you can't talk about comic art without mentioning Jack Kirby. He's just too huge. Even if you don't love Kirby, your favorite artist loves Kirby.

In no particular order, my favorite artists; Jim Cheung, Mark Brooks, Ed Benes, Jim Lee, Steve Epting, Mike Perkins, John Cassaday, Mike Choi, Adam Hughes, J. Scott Campbell, Don Figueroa, David Finch, Alex Ross, Terry Dodson, Olivier Coipel, Talent Caldwell, George Perez, 70s and 80s John Byrne, Andy Kubert, Billy Tan.

Like I said, I'm sure I'm leaving some people out.

I love Bill Watterson. Hands down, he's my favorite artist. I also really enjoy the work of Ted Naifeh, Amy Reeder, Fionna Staples, CLAMP, Tracy J. Butler (webcomic Lackadaisy) and Hiroaki Samura. Now for people you may have heard of but who I can't remember... Adam Hughes, Amanda Conner, Frank Cho, Cliff Chang, Terry Dodson, Jo Chen.

Echo Chernik (Please tell me you know Echo Chernik), one of the greatest commercial artists I've seen and someone that has worked for many RPG companies, has posted her thought process behind the cover art for the box set rules edition of Shadowrun 5.

I have always admired her ability to move from Fantasy, to Art Nouveau, to Cyberpunk and keep them all unique but screaming "Echo" at the same time.

I love Echo's stuff. ^_^ I like the paintings that she sometimes does for her layouts more than the finished computer images, though. ^^; If you follow her on facebook, she posts her WIPs sometimes. This one is my favorite: https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/ ... 8201_n.jpg
