I’m still waiting on my Marvel Legends Bulldozer, and I need to open (& review) my Marvel Legends Radioactive Man, but Hasbro has made this Thor happy (& terribly conflicted!) with the next wave of Marvel Legends, based on the Avengers.
This wave includes Captain Marvel’s current look (a must buy for me), a much awaited Machine Man, a pretty cool Iron Fist with eight hands, an improved Scarlet Witch, an improved Sentry, Hawkeye, and a Thor in his next-to-most recent look! The wave is all well & good, though I might not need all of them. But then they had to go and make the Build-A-Figure ODIN! Damn. Worse still, if you pick up Machine Man & Captain Marvel, you get parts for Allfather Thor. Which is cool, but kinda necessitates my wanting two of every other figure. Damn.
I’m not sure what I’ll do just yet, but feast your eyes on these huge pics, that get a whole lot huger if you click on ’em:
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!!
someone roll out the fry poster!
seriously… showed this to my youngest yesterday and he was pestering me already to double down on the right guys to make both BAFs and volunteered to take my extra figures. what a saint, eh? π
I’m a huge Thor and old school Avengers fan, so Thor, Scarlet Witch and Hawkeye? So much yes. Odin (FINALLY Odin) and variant Thor to boot? Yes, they will be a pain to collect, but I WILL have them all.
Not my favorite version of Thor, mind (in fact, I must admit I gave up the books years ago) but it is one of his least-stupid looks from the past few years.
These all look great. I’m not big into ML, but I’ll be picking up that Ms. Marvel the first chance I get.
Captain Marvel wins the “Black Widow Seal of Rarity” award, but Iron Fist looks awesome with all the alt hands.
Machine Man = want.
Devil Dinosaur, please? π
(yeah, that pretty much pegs my ‘Marvel Era’, doesn’t it?)
I want a Devil Dinosaur too, you could easily pack him with Moon Boy and be good to go. Although if done correctly DD would have to be a large deluxe figure. I’m excited for Machine Man, been waiting for a figure of him for years. Now all I need is a figure of Sleepwalker and that completes my “Characters I like that hey will never make into action figures” list.
Bronze Age for me as well, so it’s Machine Man, the way-too-long awaited Classic Hawkeye, (although I’m sure that he’s neither wearing his 70’s era suit nor his post-Wackos 80’s garb) and maybe, the Kirby-ish, two-toned Scarlet Witch.
Really great wave. Very excited. I do get a little frustrated with the BAF assignments though. Would be nice if at least one of the necessary repeats could go with Captain Marvel. If you’re going to get stuck with doubles, at least you’d have the ability to display both heads. What are any of us going to do with two of those Thors?
Oh and a variant green Iron Fist would help, too.
I really want to be excited about this wave, but it’s just not doing it for me.
The two figures I thought I’d be most interested in, Captain Marvel and Iron Fist, rely on paint for areas where paint simply will not suffice. Iron Fist’s bracers and boots (the latter of which don’t even seem to have the segmentation painted on) are supposed to be segmented metal bands. Black lines don’t do the job. Captain Marvel’s whole costume was about looking more like a military uniform and less like body paint, and everything on the figure save her helmet and sash is paint. Her gloves and boots are just paint, and the buttons are little blobs of yellow. Massively disappointing.
Hawkeye is not a character I care about, so that figure was never going to do anything for me. Scarlet Witch I could take or leave. I don’t dig Thor’s new look (the JMS/Coipel era costume is still far and away my favorite, and we just got the figure of that a couple years ago). Sentry is a character I don’t seem to dislike as much as many people, but this figure’s not enough of an improvement over the previous one to peak my interest. It’s the same costume and, while undeniably better executed, it’s not incentive to rebuy the character.
And I’ll jut flat out say it: I hate Machine Man. I f***ing hate that character. I’ve only read a couple of his solo stories, and they were brutally dull. Plus, I’ve read a couple of other characters’ books that were pretty good, and then they made him a supporting character, and everything went to sh**. It happened in Brian Reed’s Ms. Marvel series (though that one managed to pull itself out of its nosedive, though part of that was jettisoning Machine Man), and it happened in Red She-Hulk. I didn’t even realize how much I hated the character until I finished with Red She-Hulk and realized how the book started spiraling towards cancellation right when MM came in, and I recalled how the least interesting era on Ms. Marvel (a book I otherwise enjoyed thoroughly) was when she was in charge of a tean of mini-Avengers featuring Wonder Man and Machine Man (and AraΓ±a, though I like AraΓ±a, and thought she made a good protege for Carol).
The nicest looking figure out of the whole thing is Odin, and I can’t see myself buying a bunch of other figures I don’t want just for the parts to build him. For a line like the GotG, I bit the bullet and bought a couple figures (Iron Man and Nova) that I didn’t want just to get their Groot parts. I’m not going to buy an entire wave of characters I either don’t want or whose figure representations I find disappointing to make the BAF.
iron fist is getting kung fu GRIPS, plural, and you’re focused on the arm bands… priorities james… priorities. π
Thor – huh. I thought Thor was just new arms/head on the previous Thor body, but those wrists are new, too? I don’t have my older one handy, so not sure where the artic was for that? also, he now has He-Man’s Power Sword? yeahbuhwha?
someone on MLC asked if the helmet was removable, but I don’t see it as separate, unlike Hawk’s harness/tabard onesie.
Hawkeye – is this Bullseye/Dark Hawkeye? I don’t recall Clint having the arm sheathe/armor.
Wanda – PLEASE give us Amora off of this body! [gets out the green paints]
also, I still want my Perez Gypsy Witch! π
Carol – this suit is growing on me, but not a fan of the masked fauxhawk, but I really need a Captain UK (Linda?) variant for this one!
Sentry – better than all FOUR(!!) variants the re-used BP Sentry from TB ML, but now I want a redone Excalibur Braddock to go with that above mentioned Capt. UK. Brian’s current look can be the Cmdr Rogers torso redeco.
Machine Man – Hell Yeah! Can we have Stilt Man now, too?
Iron Fist – speaking of variants…green paints will be used liberally. π
Very good figures, specially alternatives Thor and Hawkeye suits, and classic Scarlet Witch. We can mix this new ML with the old one line and finally fullfill any gaps into Marvel Universe. Looking forward for a classic Namor (Submariner)and a decent Daredevil.
Another one waited so long is Beast, furry, blue and in an 6 inches scale. Fantastic Four need new releases too.
For the first time in a long time, I want to get an entire wave, twice. I’m with Ero in wishing that Cap Marvel was one of the necessary repeats. that and the lack of long hair for her current look are my only problems with the figure. aside from that, this is the best wave of Marvel Legends I’ve seen since the Toy Biz MODOK wave. π
Why do both Thor and Sentry remind me of Triple H?
I wonder why they gave Scarlet Witch bare upper chest and shoulders? I always remember seeing her in the comics with that portion of her costume colored PINK like her thighs/legs. It looks odd. I must’ve missed some costume variation.
I wondered about that, too. The head looks retro but I don’t remember that costume variant. I haven’t followed modern Avengers comics since Bendis took over so it might be something I’ve never seen before I stopped reading. It’s certainly an odd look for Wanda.
I stopped really putting much concern into Marvel Legends around the time Hasbro originally got the line from Toy Biz as the early offerings were bad and my house just didn’t have the room any more for all the ML figures I had.
So I ended up selling almost all of them to BBTS back when they still took opened toys. (I think I was what got them to stop doing that having gone to them twice in a year’s time with just boxes of toys.)
I so wanted a complete 90s X-Men team in ML form, and while they did get to it in Hasbro’s line with Jean Grey. I look back and see a lot of the Toy Biz ones need major redoing. Hasbro covered Archangel and Psylocke (though in her X-Force colors. However, Toy Biz Cyclops is too skinny (just blow up the MU 90s Cyclops figure), Rogue is really homely looking (again just maybe blow up the MU figure), Bishop is way too big, whereas Cable is just too small… Really though Colossus, Beast, brown costume Wolverine, X-Men Legends Iceman and Storm all look still pretty good.
These are really nice, and I’m sure I will get them….but we really need some more Marvel movie based Legend waves. The Winter Soldier and Guardians Of The Galaxy waves were amazing and I can’t help but think the Iron Man, Thor, and Avengers movies get the same treatment. Oh well, maybe for Age Of Ultron…….
Man this whole wave is want for me for many reasons.
Sentry: I saw the old scrawny toybiz one and did not know who he was at the time and only had enough money for two and only saw that exclusive wave once at a Walmart I barely went to. Tihis makes up for that now and fills a spot in Dark Avengers vs. JLA display.
Hawkeye: Will be Dark Hawkeye for me as still have to find a Modern and a Ronin (have to find that story so know correct look)
Captain Marvel: Have the Target 3 pack but do want this as have read and like the look, the mohawk is a little odd but thats why have swap head. Fun ideas for Girls night out display when get upcoming Spiderwoman.
Scarlett Witch: Looks much better than old one. Think modern look as in AvX is where comes from. Girls Night Out idea.joiner for me. Poor NA He-man all gonna hint at.
Thor: Happy with one have in RotMLs wave one so dunno what to do there.
Machine Man: Need zombie heroes. Yes thinking of MZ3 here.
Iron Fist: Easily seeing Figuart envy. Anyone know a good storage idea for spare hands? I second a classic green look on this mold as well. Need a street clothes Luke Cage badly here.
Odin: Thats who I wanna build. No knowledge on the thor variant
I feel like forgot somebody but will get whole wave.
Some very nice figures I would be quite tempted to get, but with the prices and availability of them in the UK they would be a hassle and quite expensive to collect.
